The Grammy Award Winning album In Step is Stevie Ray Vaughan and Double Troubles fourth studio, originally released in 1989. Stevie Ray had recently become sober, after years of drug and alcohol abuse. This is a recurring theme on the album. The response to In Step was very positive. Allmusic rated In Step 5 out of 5 stars claiming "it's fully realized, presenting every facet of Vaughan's musical personality, yet it still soars with a sense of discovery..." and Lou Reed selected In Step as one of his picks in 1989.

On In Step, Stevie Ray Vaughan sounds energized. free from the demons that had been haunting him throughout his life. Unfortunately this album proved to be his last album before his untimely death, caused by a helicopter crash, in 1990.
