This album was written unconventionally for us in that rather than us bringing skeletons of songs to the group to work on collectively, we demo’d all of the songs fully and continually refined them over the course of a year and some months until they reached their final stages to be able to record. This was done with just the core writing duo of Alex and Zak and some help from Nic (bass) on a few tracks. Musically, this was written much more intentionally in terms of “who is playing what parts when” vs just having everyone firing on all cylinders with the instruments at all times. It was very much an exercise in restraint and (hopefully) sonic clarity, and I think has led to some of our strongest songs we have written to date. Lyrically, this was a cathartic and challenging album to write in that I had a concept I knew I wanted to express covering multiple emotions while simultaneously trying to tell a very loose narrative story. As dark as the album is, it contains lots of moments of hope if you know where to look for them, with the final track being the realization of what one has to do to overcome grief/dark thoughts associated with it. I hope people can take something positive from this album, as writing it helped me process a lot of feelings I was having associated with those things during that year and change when we worked on the demos.
