All Hell is from Asheville, North Carolina, and this is their fifth full-length record, “Sunsetter.” Work on this record began after the
release of 2019’s “The Witch’s Grail,” and concluded in late 2024 after seemingly endless trials and setbacks – lineup changes, label
changes, personal tragedies, catastrophic acts of nature and a global pandemic, to name a few. We are immensely proud of this
album and are pleased to finally be able to share it with the world.
“Sunsetter” is a highly thematic/conceptual album exploring the intersection of vampirism, religion, cult devotion, and violence.
After 2019, even with the pandemic-induced, devastatingly-short “album cycle” of our previous record, I was very much burnt out
on metal. Nothing new was appealing, and everything seemed a worse version of something that had come before. Moreover, even
the old classics weren’t hitting the spot as much for me anymore—I clearly needed to take a step back, and I also knew that the next
All Hell record needed to be free from past constraints and expectations.
For a good while, I was listening mainly classic rock, 80s pop, new wave, post punk, and plenty of soundtracks. I felt I had cleansed
my musical palate of its metal-induced malaise. Naturally, when it came time to write, I penned what is without question the “most
metal” All Hell album to date. Funny how that works.
Initially, I wanted to craft a story set entirely in the present and near future, to contrast the previous record, which was very
Medieval in nature. However, as the work on the album progressed, it became clear that exploring the origins of these characters
would add weight to the apocalyptic story we were trying to tell. As the religious elements in the narrative grew, the decision was
made to set “Part 1” of the album in ancient times, while “Part 2” would maintain its original setting. The result is a millenniaspanning
tale of exile and death, resurrection and return.
