Los Angeles’ Afro/Latin Funk powerhouse Jungle Fire is turning up the heat with the return of their explosive debut album ‘Tropicoso’, now reissued in a stunning Red Splatter vinyl edition.
Originally released on 2014, this new color pressing is part of Nacional Records’ 20th Anniversary celebration, transforming a modern classic into an essential collector’s gem. Jungle Fire have long been a synch favorite, showing up on ad campaigns for brands such as Nike, Starbucks and Lipton, video games like Watch Dogs 2 and on countless television shows, most recently in S.W.A.T, LaCasa de Las Flores, Miracle Workers and the live broadcast of the 2019 PrimeTime Emmy Awards.
Conceived as an Afro Latin funk jam between friends, Los Angeles’ Jungle Fire has quickly and steadily become an explosive 10-piece Tropi-Funk juggernaut lighting up sold out dance floors and music festivals around the world. Dubbed by the LA Times as “one of Los Angeles’ best live bands”, Jungle Fire is a favorite of well known DJs and taste makers worldwide, including Craig Charles and Gilles Peterson (BBC), the Paris DJs (France), Rich Medina, Cut Chemist and NPR- to name a few. Jungle Fire continues to evolve their unique style of TropiFunk influenced by the music of legends such as Irakere, Ray Barretto, James Brown, Fela Kuti and Manu Dibango (just to name a few) while creating a melting pot of Afro-Caribbean and West African rhythms with a heavy break beat funk.
In 2013 the band’s debut single, “Comencemos” (a cover of Fela Kuti’s “Let’s Start”) was released with the Ohio-based indie soul label, Colemine Records. Lauded by DJs, radio stations, tastemakers and rabid funk fans across the globe, “Comencemos” (with its B side, the original tune “Tokuta”) sold out internationally and paved the way for the band’s second 7” Colemine release titled “Firewalker”. In September 2014, the group’s debut LP titled “Tropicoso” (which features all three tracks) was released to great critical acclaim on Nacional Records. The album is now re-released on limited-edition splatter pink vinyl in support of the “Ten Bands One Cause” charity initiative for breast cancer awareness month. A portion of the proceeds of each sale benefits the Red Door Community organization. The nonprofit’s mission is to create a welcoming community of FREE cancer support to bring knowledge, hope and empowerment to anyone and everyone impacted by cancer and their families.
