Nostalgia is one of the most powerful emotions known to humanity. Defined as a "sentimental longing or wistful affection for the past," it can be an artist's greatest tool when harnessed effectively. DJ Ray’s Virgo, his first solo project in over a decade, is a masterful embodiment of this sentiment. Much of the album was recorded over five years ago, meticulously tweaked and shaped over time to create a cohesive collection of instrumental bliss.

Drawing inspiration from his horoscope, the producer/DJ experiments with various synths, samplers, and guitars to craft a soundscape that is both ethereal and grounded. Standout tracks include “Keaton,” a Balearic trip-hop beat punctuated by bold percussion; “Brash Brass,” a sample-heavy tune featuring Jewelry Rap founder Lord Jah-monte Ogbon; and the opening track “Forgotten Freshness.”

The album’s only recent creation, “Oh Bae,” with its chest-rattling 808s, diverges from the rest of the project’s sound while still fitting seamlessly into the overall spacey vibe.
