Musically, it is primarily a reggaeton record that blends together diverse elements of Puerto Rican music that Bad Bunny listened to when growing up, including plena, jibaro and salsa. The lyrical content explores the complexities of Puerto Rico's political status and the resulting issues, such as gentrification and a loss of cultural identity. The album features collaborations with Chuwi, Omas Courtz, Los Pleneros de la Xresta, Dei V, and RaiNao.
Following its release, it received critical acclaim from music critics, who considered it Bad Bunny's most personal album and an homage to Puerto Rico. The album peaked at number one on the US Billboard 200, becoming his fourth number-one album and the sixth Spanish-language album to top the chart.
