In the late 1980s, a group of musicians rose from the Tokyo street/club scene, and called themselves, “Tokyo Ska Paradise Orchestra.” It was not long after that their live shows attracted attention from Tokyo audiences, and their first independent release, the vinyl only “Tokyo Ska Orchestra Paradise” with its now-famous yellow cover, was released in 1989.
The band’s popularity has grown exponentially with fans and fellow musicians alike for their Tokyo-flavored ska music, which puts a playful and diverse spin on traditional ska tunes. Their profile increased further with the 2002 album, “Stompin’ On Down Beat Alley,” which sold half a million copies in Japan and topped the local charts. Since then, they have become an icon at various festivals such as; Glastonbury, Bonnaroo, and were the first Japanese acts to perform on the main stages of both Coachella and Vive Latino.
Their sound, a mix of Ska, Jazz, and Rock, has taken them on a musical journey where they’ve gone on to perform all around Japan and in over 30 countries. With a career that spans over 28 years, this iconic, yet ever-evolving band, continues to tour and surprise audiences with their music. Their latest album, the follow up to Ska Me Forever titled Paradise has No Border, will be released by Nacional Records in anticipation of the band’s latest US and Latin American tour.
