GG Allin's best and most consistent backing band in the late 80's was The Disappointments, from Muskegon, Michigan. They were the first band to tour with him and they put a lot of time and effort into their music, both as their own band and with GG.
Guitarist Bob Pringle recorded all of the gigs the Disappointments played with GG, and some of the rehearsals. GG himself insisted that Bob do this. GG was also clear that he wanted the music to come out some day.
To that end, we are proud to present "Dawn's Garage (Day 2)". It's the complete recording of the second night of rehearsals GG had with the Disappointments. Included are many complete songs, along with breakdowns and rough run throughs. A lot of the between song talk has been left in. It is a unique, and until recently never heard, look at a band working hard to perfect their music. That includes GG, who keeps up with the band the whole time and is actively involved in all of the proceedings.
The rehearsal was recorded with a boom box. Therefore, the sound quality is quite raw, but still very listenable. GG himself preferred a rough, non- professional sound quality, so we think these recordings are very much in that spirit. Having said that, the version of these recordings offered for sale here is from a newly discovered, higher quality source tape. Now the audio is in stereo with less tape hiss and fewer dropouts than the previous version. We were quite pleased the first time we heard it!
The song list includes many GG favorites plus a couple of unreleased originals- and songs by The Troggs and Patsy Cline (!) We guarantee you've never heard GG sing like he does on "Walkin' After Midnight".
Included are extensive liner notes about the making of this music. It has been released with the full cooperation of The Disappointments.
