"Somewhere Along The Highway" and "Eternal Kingdom" were inspired by the landscape of Västerbotten, the province we come from. It was clear to us that there could only be one way for us to go: into the city, into the future. It would have been too easy to make a droning John Carpenter-esque album, and we've never been about taking the easy way out

At the time, I was studying film and was fascinated by the aesthetics of German Expressionism. It was a perfect match for Erik Olofsson, who had just been studying Italian Futurism. That was a real challenge. We tried very hard to realize our vision of the bland, artificial city in all aspects of the album. The way we played guitar (Down Strokes only), the production, the artwork and the band photos, everything was done with the vision as a guide. "Vertikal" is the album where we had the most precise vision of what we wanted to do, and where we worked the hardest to turn it from an idea into a reality.

A lot has happened in the years between "Eternal Kingdom" and "Vertikal" and I could go on forever, but for now this is enough. Ten years have passed since the release of "Vertikal" and it felt like a rebirth of the band, still moving forward with new goals and missions. It's kind of a full circle.
