In the spring of 1998, Nicholas Branigan joined Bane and we were ready to write our first full length record. Fresh off the heels of our first full US tour, we got into the practice space (adorned with leaking ceilings and propane heaters) and wrote what would ultimately become “It All Comes Down to This.” When we were ready to record the album, My old band had just done a tour with Today Is The Day and Steve Austin (their singer) wanted to record the first Bane LP. At that time we had recorded everything we had ever released with Brian McTernan. Brian had moved away and we thought it was a good opportunity to try recording with someone new. With Steve’s enthusiasm, we went in and recorded a 6 song demo at his studio in Clinton, MA. We tracked it all in 1 one day and it sounded great. A few months later, we booked time at the studio and tracked the album. It was the first time we didn’t have anyone to really guide us or push us towards good or bad takes. Ultimately we were very happy with the takes but overall that record just never came together the way we wanted it to sound-wise. We loved all the songs and how they all came out musically, but we couldn’t get past the sound quality of the record.

Fast forward 20 years, and I was talking with Dan Sandshaw at EVR and we talked about converting the old tapes to updated digital files. After a long process of tracking down the tapes, we finally got them transferred and got them into the hands of Brian McTernan in 2023. After a grueling process of editing the drums by Will Beasley and Brian McTernan we got the foundation for the tracks done. In December 2023 we got the first rough mix and we were blown away by how good it sounded. After a few more months, Brian gave us the final mix and when we listened to it, we were in complete shock by how incredible it sounded and after 25 years hearing the record the way it was supposed to sound. It literally brought tears to our eyes. Steve Austin captured the songs for that time and Brian’s talent brought it to life and made it sound the way it was always meant to.

I know that remixing and remastering can always be a touchy subject, but Bane truly believes that this record finally got the justice it deserves.
