One of the first modern guitar players to believe in a re-insertion of the unamplified Spanish guitar in jazz, Charlie Lee Byrd was born in Suffolk, Virginia, on September 16, 1925 (he died on December 2, 1999 at the age of 74).

Presented here are three complete 1962 sessions featuring Byrd playing Brazilian music (or tunes he composed in the Brazilian vein) as the main soloist. The September 28 and October 1 dates constitute the original Byrd album Bossa Nova Pelos Pássaros in its entirety.
