DESCRIPTION:

Yusef Lateef – Golden Flower: Live in Sweden brings together two never-before-released performances by the visionary multi-instrumentalist, drawn from the original tape reels at Swedish Radio and newly prepared for a deluxe Elemental Music edition.

Presented as a deluxe 180-gram 2LP gatefold with a 12-page booklet featuring rare photos, new essays by Herb Boyd and producer Zev Feldman, plus testimonies by Jeff Coffin, Chico Freeman and Charlie Apicella. LP mastering by Matthew Lutthans at The Mastering Lab; transfers from the original Sveriges Radio tapes.

Recorded in Stockholm (1967) with Lars Sjösten, Palle Danielsson and Albert “Tootie” Heath, and at the Åhus Jazz Festival (1972) with Kenny Barron, Bob Cunningham and Albert “Tootie” Heath. These historic concerts illuminate Lateef’s singular voice on tenor saxophone and flute across repertoire that spans elegance, fire, and deep groove.
