Hell Hound was the hard-hitting heavy rock band that laid the foundation for Canadian proto-metal legends Fable. The band’s roots date back to 1972, when Glen Politano invited Gary Anderson to join him and bassist Norman Curtis in a new project. This followed an earlier group, ARM, where Gary and Glen first played together before going their separate ways. Reuniting under the name Hell Hound, the trio quickly found a shared musical vision.

Within weeks of forming, Hell Hound gave their debut performance on a hot June night at Bananas, an after-hours club in Victoria, British Columbia. Influenced by heavyweights like Cream, Jimi Hendrix, and Deep Purple, Hell Hound combined blues-based hard rock with the emerging (and yet to be labeled) heavy metal sound of the era. Their raw energy and heavy riffs quickly set them apart.

Over three rewarding years, Hell Hound became known for their electrifying live performances and ballistic sound. While the band evolved into Fable in the mid-1970s, these newly uncovered recordings from 1973 capture Hell Hound at their most primal—offering a rare glimpse into the early days of a group that would become a pioneering force in Canadian heavy rock.
