The last of Rivers' four highly-distinctive Blue Note albums, 1967's \u003cem\u003eDimensions \u0026amp; Extensions\u003c\/em\u003e, is fascinating for the presence of trumpeter \u003cstrong\u003eDonald Byrd\u003c\/strong\u003e who makes a rare foray into the avant-garde alongside Rivers on tenor saxophone, soprano saxophone, and flute, \u003cstrong\u003eJames Spaulding\u003c\/strong\u003e on alto saxophone and flute, \u003cstrong\u003eJulian Priester\u003c\/strong\u003e on trombone, \u003cstrong\u003eCecil McBee\u003c\/strong\u003e on bass, and \u003cstrong\u003eSteve Ellington\u003c\/strong\u003e on drums.
