I was transfixed by it's particular amalgam of harmony, repetition, and pacing. But I underestimated it's magnetism. The following year I was back in it's grips, having been invited by Metropolis Ensemble's Andrew Cyr to expand on the foundation I had laid with the piece. Soon I was in Brooklyn, on a team of six with Cyr and the members of Sandbox Percussion, humbled and thrilled to be helping architect a brand new large ensemble arrangement of Canto Ostinato for a summer solstice performance at the Brooklyn Botanic Garden. We did so, our cohort growing to include the students of The New School's Sandbox Percussion Summer Seminar, as well as composers David Leon, Ben Wallace, and Ledah Finck and the Bergamot Quartet. It was a day we will all remember-sweeping, dreamlike, and what felt like a quintessential culmination. But even then... The piece still beckoned, and it became clear this new orchestration called for the embarkment on a studio album. A permanent document of our now collective ardor. Refined over a year and recorded in New York, 2025, this performance recasts the piece anew in a towering framework of mallet percussion, woodwinds, strings, and piano. It is our truest attempt at conveying Canto's beauty and magnitude in all it's kaleidoscopic harmony, dynamism, tension, and release. I stand once again in awe of Simeon ten Holt's monumental creation; to be a thread in it's sonic fabric is one of the great honors of my musical life. Larrison Seidle grew up in Greenwood, Indiana, a working-class suburb of Indianapolis, in the 70s and 80s. He did not come from a family of musicians, however a household that encouraged musicality. His father bought an electric organ, envisioning Larrision and his older brother learning the instrument. \"It ended up with my father sitting at the organ some nights, making up, and playing over and over, this one song that I can still remember the first few bars of,\" recalls Larrison. It was possibly in this moment absent of formal training but full of encouragement and exploration, the artist's forays into musical experimentation took root. A permission to dabble that would distinctly color his creative output in the years to follow. While classic rock records were readily available in Larrison's childhood home, his father borrowed 35mm educational documentaries from the library to screen in the living room, each scored with whimsical instrumentals. As a teenager he recorded John Carpenter and Alan Howarth's end theme from Escape from New York using a small tape recorder placed next to the television speaker, and he loved Tangerine Dream's contributions to Ridley Scott's dark fantasy Legend. His obsession with these largely lyricless, synthesizer based compositions produced an idiosyncratic understanding of how music serves to complement not only what we can see in front of us but what we undergo in the recesses of consciousness. In 1985, when he was thirteen, Larrison convinced his father to buy him a Casio CZ-5000 keyboard. A novelty in the Seidle household like the organ before, it wasn't until after graduating high school in 1991, and starting college at Herron School of Art in Indianapolis, that he discovered the sequencer built into the Casio and began recording his compositions to tape. \"The CZ-5000 and it's 8 track sequencer is the only musical instrument I used. Now Knumears' debut al- bum, Directions, is equal parts love letter and cartography project, one that explores the deep history of a convoluted scene while creating an exciting blueprint for a new one. Knumears are a group of not just passionate musicians, but friends whose bonds are as important as the music they make together. Since 2021, the Knumears (bassist Dante Garcia II, drummer Frankie Lopez, and vocalist\/ guitarist Matthew Cole) have been writing, touring and playing nonstop, moving from playing packed local shows with kids screaming, climbing, shouting and dancing to touring nationally and finding the same fervent reactions all across the country. But outside of the chaos of touring, the group found equal growth in their personal lives, strengthening old bonds with those back home, discovering new connections, and cultivating their own worlds. \"All of us were kind of finding ourselves on our own and finding new relationships of all kinds,\" Cole says, reflecting on the record's devel- opment. \"A lot of change was happening for each of us.\" At first all of this personal upheaval was not completely conducive to writing a new album. The band was scheduled to record with legendary producer\/engineer Jack Shirley (Deafheaven, Loma Prieta, Touche Amore) but the band's process felt somewhat stagnant until suddenly it wasn't: \"We were all struggling very much creativity wise,\" explains Cole \"We'd all found outlets in other projects while trying to write this record. But a few weeks before our time with Jack, we sat down and basically wrote the whole record.
